Flood Precast have just started on site to the prestigious HARC building for Hereford Council been delivered by Kier Construction.
The new centre will offer a range of social and community outreach programmes, a dedicated educational room and improved facilities and access for the public.
In addition, the new facility will also bring the archive, the county’s archaeology unit, the historic environment record, and the biological records centre together in one building, allowing people access to all these records in one place.
A New Energy Efficient Building
The new building will have better access for visitors and be more energy efficient, with running costs significantly less because of the leading edge “passivhaus” design.
Through our long standing relationship with Kier Construction Central we developed a scheme that offered the client the high quality and standards that were required within the target budget.
A mixture of Flood Super Wideslab® wide slab flooring, Super Voidslab® voided slab flooring, precast concrete stairs and beams were designed to meet the very strict design criteria of 1/1000 deflection limits, 4 hour fire rating and exposed concrete soffits suitable for direct decoration.
The advantages of using Flood Precast products are:
- Pre-stressing for the deflection limits.
- Solid slab for the fire rating.
- Wet casting on steel mould beds for the high quality soffit finish.
- Reduction in building height.
- Faster erecting time on site using precast products.
- Better sound insulation.
- Thermal mass and natural ventilation Exposed solid Flood Super Wideslab® and Super Voidslab® are an excellent heat sink which is critical for natural ventilation.
Use of Super Voidslab® also allowed steel work to be cast within the structural depth of the floor without imposing the associated dead load into the design. More updates as the structure develops.
