Pre-stressed Flooring Slabs for Scottish redevelopment

Flood Precast worked in partnership with contractor JD Pierce in designing and providing 3000sqm of our pre-stressed flooring slabs Flood Super Wideslab® for this development.

Works officially started on Clydebank’s new state of the art leisure centre in June 2015 in the town’s historic Queen’s Quay. This development is a key part of the regeneration strategy for the area. The new £22million four-storey building is set to open in early 2017 and offers a significant enhancement on facilities currently available at the Play Drome.

It will include: a 25-metre swimming pool, teaching pool, leisure pool with waves and flume; changing facilities, a café, multi-purpose sports hall with badminton, netball, basketball, hockey and five-a-side football courts and retractable seating, fitness suite, and dance studio.

The current leisure centre in Clydebank, the Playdrome is less than 15 years old, however operational issues combined with the value of the site has provided an opportunity to replace the centre.  The use of the river-front site alongside the new further education college, the Enterprise Centre and surrounded by a major new housing development.

Flood Super Wideslab® solid concrete precast slab is sometimes referred to as “plate flooring”. Wideslab flooring contains an internal mesh/strand which facilitates notching and the forming of opes. This has the benefit that there is less time spent on site manually cutting openings for services within the building thus saving costs.
