Flood Precast Super Wideslab® concrete flooring incorporated into the redevelopment design

Flood Precast worked with our client F Parkinson Limited in providing Super Wideslab® concrete flooring for the Contact Capital Theatre, Oxford Road, Manchester. The theatre is currently undergoing a major expansion and refurbishment. The owners of the theatre plan to transform their building for the next generation of audiences, artists and young people.

The redevelopment which will re-open in 2019 will now include new performance spaces; a new recording studio for our young people’s music projects; an arts and health development space; new offices for artists and cultural organisations to hire and work alongside us; a new café/bar and many other exciting new features.

One of the many benefits of using Super Wideslab® flooring is that it is twice as fast to install on-site than hollowcore slabs. It provides an immediate working platform for other trades on the site. With Super Wideslab® flooring, there is a full cast-in lifting system. The slabs have fully anchored cast-in lifters are designed so that the units can be lifted from the trailer into final position without the need for cradles, chains or bearing into position.

Some of the technical advantages include:

Awkward shapes are easily accommodated – wet cast production allows for the forming of most shapes.
Can be used to construct a flat slab with no down stand beams – projecting steel links cast into the unit accommodates shear without the requirement for bearing.
Spans in two directions – ideal solution for dealing with disproportionate collapse or progressive collapse design.
Heavy loads – the prestressed solid nature of the slab allows load to be redistributed and is an ideal solution for suspended service yards.
Reduction in building height – shallowest structural floor zone available in the market.
Openings can be easily accommodated – eliminates the requirement for trimmer beams.
Better Sound Insulation – Flood Wideslab concrete flooring is 50% better sound insulated than Hollowcore.
Reduced beam depth  – Flood Wideslab can be designed to work compositely with steel and in-situ concrete beams, reducing the beam depth by to 25%
