A quick turnaround was essential when Flood were asked to supply products for Cosworth’s new factory in Northampton. Cosworth is the precision engineering firm which makes components for many of the world’s performance and racing cars.
Precast stairs and Hollowcore Floor
Working to meet a short lead-in time, Flood supplied 200mm Hollowcore flooring and the flights for two stair cores for installation by the contractors. Speed was an essential element of this project, which was announced as recently as October 2013, at which time the site for the factory had not yet been finally decided.
With the planning application approved in record time, construction started on May 1st, and is expected to be completed by August this year. The facility is scheduled to become fully operational by the beginning of 2015.
Creating local jobs
The 38,000 square foot Advanced Manufacturing Centre, which adjoins the existing Cosworth plant at the Waterside Enterprise Zone, is being built with financial support from the UK government and the local borough council.
It will include a state-of-the-art Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS), the first of its kind in the UK. The factory is expected to support the local economy with about 70 new jobs and apprenticeships, and is also likely to create a further 200 jobs for suppliers in the area.
Understanding needs and priorities
Hal Reisiger, the Chief Executive of Cosworth Group Holdings, spoke positively of the construction project; “It is invigorating to work alongside a team who understand the needs and priorities of Cosworth and who share our drive and vision to supply excellent products and services to high performance vehicle makers.”
