What is BIM (Building Information Modelling)

Building Information Modelling - What is BIM?

Building information modelling (BIM) is a development in the construction field that is aimed at ensuring faultless construction through effective data management. Through BIM, information on design, costs, and construction processes can be coordinated and structural engineers, builders and architects can access accurate information about building parts and components. The information is stored at a central location – this means that the data is streamlined hence sharing is made easy and more effective. As a result, the chances of error and wastage during construction are eliminated.

BIM Applications

BIM employs technology that enables stakeholders to get a clear view of both the interior and exterior of the building. It also makes it possible for the involved parties to access synchronised information about the material quality and quantity as well as the project schedule. While this ensures client satisfaction, it also helps in generating higher profits given that modifications are avoided and productivity is increased at the same.
