BIM and Lean Construction for Revamp of Shopping Centre

This major scheme project was the first of its’ kind in the Republic of Ireland to be delivered through Building Information Modelling (BIM) and lean construction methods via a design and build contract.

The project included the phased demolition of the existing Dundalk Shopping Centre whilst the construction of a Temporary 15,000 sq.ft. Store was completed on an adjacent site in order to allow Tesco to continue trading.

Flood Precast worked in partnership with Precision Construction to design, manufacture and supply 1,800m2 of Super Wideslab® Concrete Slabs and Precast Concrete Stairs and Landings.

Works were completed on the redevelopment and revamp of Tesco in Dundalk Shopping Centre in 2014, with the stores officially opening in July 2014.

Many clients in the construction industry are approaching adoption of BIM and Lean Construction, as it encourages greater project team integration. Using Lean Construction will increase the power of BIM for more effective collaboration focused on meeting the objectives of the client. BIM adoption by designers and constructors are growing because of the cost benefits and efficiency of this tool.
